ARTICLES IN JOURNALS. 437 lasts during the earlier stages of existence of the dominant member of the association. On account of the originality of his views, we should have expected Dr. Minks to bring forward strong evidence for the existence of this form of symbiosis. This he can hardly be said to have done. In fact, he does not seem to have used those methods of investigation, such as pure cultures, from which the most trustworthy evidence could be obtained. The work is without figures. ^ ^ g^ AETICLES IN JOURNALS. Annals of Botany (Sept.). — H. Wager, ' Structure and Repro- duction of Cystopns candidus ' (2 pL). — E. A.
