Death and the powers infernal fear
As His imperial voice they hear;
Shall we more cold and deaf than they
Refuſe His ſummons to obey?

While Nature wrapt in ſlumber lies,
Let us the Sons of Light ariſe,
And a Divine unwearied ſong
Throughout theſe matin hours prolong;

And now by Law and Prophets taught,
And Pſalms with light and fervour fraught,
While Earth's profaner ſounds are ſtill,
With ſacred tones His temples fill:

O may the Goſpel trump awake
Our languid hearts, our ſlumbers break;
A new and Heavenward walk expreſs,
Our lives new riſen to holineſs.

Diſpenſe theſe bleſſings from above,
O God, Thou Fount of life and love!
Whoſe Spirit's quickening grace inſpires
Thy law with new and living fires.

To Father and to Son e'er be
High Praiſe, and Holy Ghoſt! to Thee,
Whoſe cheering influence to our hearts
Celeſtial light and warmth imparts! Amen
