FEBRUARY 18.

Schum & self carting timber. Joe clearing roads. McC better but weak. All the horses seen.

FEBRUARY 19.

Jinnette left the run Mc after her. Schum doing odd work, with bad leg. Joe at road; self trimming rails.

FEBRUARY 20.

Went with Mc C down to Port; found flat all right, Deposited letters in bottle at "Dig Rock"(g)

FEBRUARY 21.

Burned the spinnifex near former site of house; & more on plains. Found timber and returned.

FEBRUARY 22.

Cutting rails & searching all over the country for more; but none. Joe and Schum digging post holes (ground very hard. Killed a sheep 47 lbs.

FEBRUARY 23.

Trimming & carting rails. Men as above.

FEBRUARY 24.

Ditto. Lewington came to me & said a native (Mullandee) had made a most murderous attack on him with a stone axe; on the bank of the river, while minding his cattle and fishing. I came home with the team, sent McC for the saddle horses; in the interim prepared traps &c; &
