Wellard for £3.0.0) Engaged John McCourt at £3.0.0, per month, until Mr. Wellard arrived or an opportunity offers of his going to the Swan; as since the attack on Lewington I may require the services assistance of an experienced bushman.

MARCH 1.

Men cutting rails. Nairn made a start; but his horses ran away with the packs; so he had returned and repaired them. Mc after horses, self after bull and heifer. Men the same.

MARCH 2.

Nairn's party left. McC and I accompanied them in search of a mare; & native Mullundee. Men the same as before.

MARCH 3.

Found the mare Lucy on the George, returned to Nairn's camp on little creek, 3 miles beyond Jones' creek. Men quarrying stone at house.

MARCH 4.

Lucy off again in hobbles, tracked her 10 miles; & overtook her on western Sherlock & came home.

Men are same duties.
