A. D. 1730. -Anno tertio Georgii II. C. 20. 19 and Earthen Wares, and for granting feveral Duties upon Tobacco Pipes and other Earthen Wares, for carrying on the War again/1 France, and for eftablifh'mg a National Land Bank, and taking off the Du- ties upon Tonnage of Ship's, and upon Coals, the fame Rates and Duties were continued for ever, for the Purpofes of the faid Aft : And whereas by a fubfequent Aft made in the ninth Year of the Reign of her late Majefty Queen Anne, For making good Deficiencies, and Satisfying the Pubtick Debts, 9 Ann, c .m. and for creeling a Corporation to carry on a Trade to the South -Seas, and for the Encouragement of the Fijhiry, the before mentioned Duties, amongft other Duties therein enumerated, were made Part of the Duties and Revenues on which the Fund or Annuity, and Allowance for Charges of Manage- ment, thereby made payable to the South-Sea Company, to be ereclcd by virtue and in purfuance of the fame Aft, for or in refpeft of the feveral Publick Debts or Securities thereby authorized to be fubfcribeJ into the Capital or Joint Stock of the fame Company, were charged : And whereas by virtue of the fame laft recited Aft, and of the Subfcriptions • made of Publick Debts or Incum- brances in purfuance thereof, and of a further Sum of Money advanced by the faid South-Sea Com- pany into the Exchequer, in purfuance of an Aft of the firft Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King George the Firft, For enlarging the Capital Stock and yearly Fund of the South-Sea Company, lCe0 , ^ and by feveral fubfequent Afts of Parliament, the faid South-Sea Company are intitled, either in the c. m." Revenues appropriated by the faid recited Aft of the ninth Year of her faid late Majefty 's Reign, and fuch. fubfequent Afts as aforefaid, one Annuity or yearly Fund of four hundred thoufand Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain, and alfo the yearly Allowance of eight thoufand Pounds for Charges of Management, fubjeft to Redemption by Parliament, on Payment to them of the Sum of ten millions, by any Sums not lefs than five hundred thoufand Pounds at a Time : And whereas by an Aft of Parliament made in the ninth and tenth Years of the Reign of his faid late Majefty King William the Third, intituled, An Ail for raifmg a Sum not exceeding two millions upon a Fund for && lo w. 31 Payment of Annuities after the Rate of eight Pounds per Centum per Annum, and for jettling the Trades. 44. to the Eatt-Indies, it was amongft other Things enafted, That there fhould be raifed, levied, col- lected and paid unto his Majefty, his Heirs and Succeffors for ever, for Salt, whether imported from foreign Parts, or home made, feveral additional Rates and Duties therein mentioned (over and above all other Duties already payable for the fame, by any Aft or Afts of Parliament before that time made, and then in Force) and the fame additional Duties on Salt, together with certain additional Duties on ftampt Vellum, Parchment and Paper, therein mentioned or referred to, were charged with an An- nuity or yearly Fund of one hundred and fixty thoufand Pounds for Payment of Annuities, after the Rate of eight Pounds per Centum per Annum, redeemable by Parliament, to the Subfcribers of two millions, in purfuance of the fame Aft : And whereas the faid Annuity or yearly Fund of one hundred and lixty thoufand Pounds ftill remains charged on the fame additional Duties on Salt, and Stamp Duties, and is now payable to the United Company of Merchants of England trading to the Eajl-Indies, redeemable by Parliament, on Payment to the faid United Company of the Capital Sum or Debt from the Publick, of three millions two hundred thoufand Pounds.; but the faid United Company have agreed and confented to reduce the fame Annuity or yearly Fund of one hundred and fixty thoufand Pounds, from the twenty-ninth Day of September which fhall be in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and thirty, to an Annuity or yearly Sum of one hundred and twenty- eight thoufand Pounds, redeemable by Parliament, on fuch Terms as are particularly expreffed in another Aft of this prefent Seffion of Parliament : And whereas by the Articles of Union between Ann c , the Kingdoms of England and Scotland, all the faid Duties on Salt were, from die Times therein Article s. mentioned, to take place in Scotland (except the additional Duty on home made Salt) with fome Provifions for preventing Salt made in Scotland from being brought into England, without paying the faid additional Dury on Salt made in England;' Now we your Majefty's moil dutiful and loyal 5 &- 6 W. & M. Subjects, the Commons of Great Britain, having confuiered how great a Relief it would be to your c - 7- Majefty's Subjefts, to take off the Duty impofed by the faid firft recited Aft on Home made Salt, and alfo to take off all the additional Duties on Salt, whether Foreign or Home made, impofed by the faid Aft of the ninth and tenth Years of the Reign of his faid late Majefty King William the Third, and being defirous at the fame Time to fecure the Creditors of the Publick from any Injury and'Darnage they may fuffer thereby, do moft humbly befeech Your Majefty that it may be enafted ; and be it enact- ed by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Content of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament aflembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That from and after the twenty-fifth Day of December which ihall be in the Year of our Lord After 2 _ Dc __ one thoufand feven hundred and thirty, the Duty of one Penny Halfpenny per.
