' TTT'HEREAS Madder is an Ingredient efTentially neceflary in dyeing and Calllcoe Printing, and of ' VV great Confequence to the Trade and Manufa6tures of this Kingdom; and may be raifed therein
- equal in Goodnefs, if not fuperior, to any Foreign Madder : And whereas the encouraging of the Growth
' thereof in this Kingdom, will be a Saving of a very large Sum of Money, which is now paid for that
- Commodity imported Duty free from Abroad ; and will alfo be a Means of employing great Numbers of
- Poor in the Winter Months: And whereas the afcertaining of the Tithe of Madder will be thp greateft
- Means of encouraging the Growth of that Commodity in this Kingdom :' May it therefore pleafe your
Majefty, that it may be enaftcd ; and be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent ot the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament af- fembled, and by the Authority of the fame. That from and after the firft Day of Augup^ v/hich will be in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and fifty-eight, all and every Perlbn and Pcrfons who fhall plant, grow, raife or cultivate, or caufe to be planted, grown, raifed or cultivated, any Madder iij any Pari{h or Place within that Part of Great Britain called Englawl., {hall pay, or caufe to be paid, to ever ry Parfon, Vicar, Curate or Impropriator of any fuch Parilh or Place, the Sum of five. Shillings, and no more, yearly and every Year, for each Acre of A/ladder fo planted, grown, raifed or cultivated, and fo pro- portionably for more or lefs Ground fo planted or cultivated, in lieu of all manner of Tithe of Ma.idei ;, for the Recovery of which Sum or Sums of Money, the Parfon, Vicar or Impropriator, {liall have the common and ufual Remedy allowed of by the Lavvs of this Realm. 11. Provided always, and be it enabled by the Authority aforefaid. That no Madder fhall be carried ofF the Ground on which it grows, before the Sum or Sums of Aloney herein before dire6led to be taken in lieu of Tithes, be paid to the Perfon or Perfons refpe£tively intitled to receive the fame.
