Orders to be then ifTued to the Conftables, to return, on a Day appointed, to the Deputy Lieu- tenants, Lifts of the Inhabitants between 1? and so Years of Age, diftin- guifliing each Perfon. Cop^' of the Lift to be affixed on the Door of the Church on the Sunday before the Return is made. Deputy Lieutenants, affifted by the Juftice, on the Day of the Returns, after hearing particular Grievances, are to amend the Lirts ; and then appoint a lecond Meeting. Parifh, Tything or Place, within their refpeiftive Hundreds, Raj^es, Laths, Wapentakes or other Divifions, to return to the Deputy Lieutenants within their refpe6tive Subdivifions, at the Place, and on the Day appointed at the faid firft General Meeting, fair and true Lifts in Writing, of all the Men ufually and at that Time dwelling within their refpedtive Parifhes, Tythings and Places, between the Ages of eighteen and fifty Years, diftinguifhing their refpec- tive Ranks and Occupations, and which of the Perfons fo returned, labour under any Infirmi-' ties incapacitating them from ferving as Militia Men, having firft affixed a true Copy of fuch Lift on the Door of the Church or Chapel belonging to fuch Parifh, Tything or Place; and if any Place, being E.vtraparochial fhall have no Church or Chapel belonging thereto, on the Door of the Church or Chapel of fome Parifh or Place thereto adjoining, on the Sunday Morn- ing before they fliall make fuch Return; and on the Day, and at the Place, fo refpeitively ap- pointed as aforefaid, for the Returns of the Lifts, the faid Deputy Lieutenants, or any three or more of them, or any two Deputy Lieutenants, together with any one Juftice of the Peace, or any one Deputy Lieutenant, together with any two Juftices of the Peace, fo aflembled in their SubJivifions, {hall after hearing any Perfon who fliall think himfelf aggrieved by having his Name inferted in fuch Lifts, or by any others being omitted) diredl fuch Lifts, to be amend- ed, as the Cafe {hall require, and alfo the Names of all Perfons by this A<5t refpe6lively ex- cepted, to be ftruck out of the faid Lifts, aiid fliall appoint the Times and Places for their fe- cond Meetings within their refpc6live Subdivifions, and fhall return to the fecond General Meeting all the Lifts for the feveral Parifnes, Tythings and Places fo amended -, at which fiiJ fecond General Meeting, his Majefty's Lieutenant, together with any two or more Deputy Lieu- tenants, or, in the Abfence of his Majefty's faid Lieutenant, any three or more Deputy Lieute- nants, {hall order Copies to be made of all the faid Lifts, and fuch Copies to be returned to the Deputy Lieutenants at their iecond Meetings within their Subdivifions, wherein the Pariflies, Tythings and Places for which fuch Lifts are made and returned, are rcfpeitively fituate ; and fhall appoint what Number of Men in each refpeilive Hundred, Rape, Lath, Wapentake or other Divifion, fhnll ferve in the faid Militia, towards raifing the Number of Militia Men, by the faid recited A61 ordered and dircdled to be raifed for fuch refpeflive County, Riding or Place, in Proportion to the whole Number contained in fuch Lifts; and the faid Deputy Lieutenants, or any three or more of them, or any two Deputy Lieutenant":, together with any one Juftice of the Peace, or any one Deputy Lieutenant, together with any two Juftices of the Peace, af- fembled at their faid fecond Meetings within the faid Subdivifions, fhall caufe the Number of Men appointed at the faid fecond General Meeting to ferve for each refpe6tive Hundred, Rape, J. ath, Wapentake or other Divifion, to be chofen by Lot out of the Lifts of the feveral Pariflies, lathings and Places v/ithin the fime ; and the faid Deputy Lieutenants, or any one or more of them, fhall appoint another Meeting to be held within three Weeks in the fame Subdivifion, and fhall ifilie out an Order to the Chief Conftable or other Officers of the refpe£tive Hundreds, Rapes, Laths,Wapentakes or other Divifions, to direct ihcConft^ible, Tythingman, Headborough or other Officer of each Parifh, Tything or Place, to give Notice to every A4an fo chofen to ferve in the Militia, to appear at fuch A-Icetlng ; which Notice fhall be given or left at his Place of Abode, at leaft feven Days before fuch Aleetiiig; and every Perfon fo chofen by Lot, fliall, upon fuch Notice, appear at fuch A'Jecting, and there take the Oath by this Adt directed to be taken (which Oath any one Deputy Lieutenant is hereby authorized then and there to admi- nifter) and fhall be inrollcd to ferve in the Militia of fuch refpective County, Riding or Place, as a Private Militia Man, for the Space of three Years, in a Roll to be then and there prepared for that Piirpofc, or fhall provide a fit Perfon (to be approved by the faid Deputy Lieutenants, or any three or more of them, or by anv two Deputy Lieutenants, together with any one Juf- tice of the Peace, or by any one Deputy Lieutenant, together with any two Juftices of the Peace, then met) to ferve as his Subflitutc; which Subftirute (o provided, fhall take the faid Oath, and fign on the faid Roll his Confent to ferve as his Subflitutc, durin.:; the laid Term ; and if any Perfon fo chofen by Lot to ferve in the Militia (not being one of the People called ^iiokers) fhall rcfufe or neglei5 to take the faid (^ath, and ferve in the Militia, or to provide a Suhftitute to be approved as aforefaid, wlio fhall take the faid Oath, and fign his Confent to ferve as his Subftitute, every fuch Perfon fo refufing or neglecting, fhall forf:.'it and pay the Sum of ten I^ounds, and at the End of three Years be appointed to ferve again.
