Ram Dutt, Ratri, Rai Bahadur (1907). retired Extra-Assistant Conservator of Forests, U.P.; b. 1854; educ: Government College, Bareilly; joined the Forest Department at Jaunsor; introduced certain useful invensions, such as the telescope method of floating timber, a wire tramway, a day slide and a truck tram-way; obtained certificate of merit, 1903; retired, 1908; joined service of Tehri State. Ram Gulam Singh, Rai Bahadur, Zemindar; belongs to a family that emigrated from Bhagh in Godakpur; b. 1850; educ: privately; contributed liberally to the Victoria Memorial Fund and other objects of public utility; has an annual income of Rs. 20,000. Thakersey Mulji and Company, 1875; started the Kaiser Hind Mills in conjunction with Messrs. Vassanji Munji and Sons, 1879; became guarantee broker to Messrs. Rally Bros. 1882; became Member of the Committee of Mill-Owners’ Association. Bombay, 1891; Chairman, Native Piece-goods Association, Bombay, 1897; was elected a Member, Bombay Corporation, 1898; Member of the Standing Committee, Bombay Corporation, 1905; Chairman, Indian Merchants’ Chamber, Bombay, 1907; Chairman, Standing Committee of the Bombay Corporation, 1909; Chairman, Mill-Owners’ Association, Bombay; nominated as Trustee, Port of Bombay; represented the Bombay Merchantile Community in the Bombay Legislative Council, 1910; President, Bombay Corporation, 1912-13; presided at the 14th Session of the Indian Industrial Conference held at Madras, 1914; Justice of the Peace and Honorary Magistrate; took a prominent part in organising the Indian Mercantile Insurance Co., and the Bombay Swadeshi Stores.
