ITEM, For-fa-meikle as the ordouring of the Cuinzie-hous , and forgeing of money within this Realme, is ane mater of great importance, to the haill lieges thereof , as may appeare bee divers A&is , maidein our Soveraignis Lordis predeceflouris Parliamentes of befoir. And feeing the greate neceffity now required, for having of gude and fufficient cuinzie within the Realme , feeing the gude Silver , as Teftones , and uther auld filver , is utterlie melted and deftroyed , fwa that the unce of filver , is at dowbil price , that it wount to be at , within thir late dayis , quhair-throw the Realme is utterlie impoverifhed be evil Cuinzie. Therefore it is declared, in this prefent Parliament , that our Soveraine Lord, with advife of his Regent, may caufe prent and cuinzie Golde and Silver of fik fynefle, as uthers Countreis dois, to pafle within this Realme to the lieges of the famin. And that na prent nor cuinzie of onie layed money , be maid or cuinziet , inony time cumming , but advife of the three Eftaites of Parliament. And fik-like, OUR SOVERAINE LORD with advife of his Regent , and the three Eftaites foirfaidis , ordainis, that namaner of Gold, nor Silver , alreadie cuinziet within this Realme, bee melted , nor broken downe , in the Cuinzie-houfe, or other- wife in anie time heirafter , under the paine of confifcation of the halfe of the guddes of the awner , and melter for the firft fault. ITEM, Anent the petition proponed be the Senatoures of the College of Juftice , beirand that there is divers perfones, that ties perfewed A&iones before them , for reduction of infeftmentes , quhilkis ar con- firmed be our Soveraine Lordis Predecefloures , quhilkis ar granted and confirmed in Parliament. And againft the famin it is alledged , that the faidis Senatoures are na wife Judges competent , to the reduction of ony fik infeftment. Quhairfoir the faidis Senatoures hes referred the declaration , whither they be Judges competent , to ony fik reduction or not , to our Soveraine Lord and the three Eftaites of Parliament. And therefore defiring the fenfement , and declaration of this prefent Parliament , quhat they fall do there-anent : OUR SO- VERAINE LORD, with advife of his Regent, and the three Eftaites of this prefent Parliament , de- clairis the faids Senatouris of the College of Juftice , to be Judges competent , to the reduction of all fik in^ feftmentes , as faid is , notwithftanding quhat-fum-ever confirmation, or grant of Parliament paft thereupon. 18. Anent fchutting , and bearing of Culveringes and "Dagges. ITEM, For-fa-meikle as be the ufe of Culveringes, Dagges, Piftolettes, and fik uther ingines of fire - vvarke, ar not onlie of the lovabil conftitutions of this Realme, in flaying of wilde beaftes , andfoules forbidden, but als divers our Soveraine Lords lieges , ar fchamefullie and cruellie murthered , flayne, and hurt, quhilkes utherwife wer abill , to make defence fuffkientlie for themfelves , at all times of perfute , as hes bene laitlie feene within this Burgh of Edinburgh. And for efchewing and remeid thereof in time cum- ming : It is ftatute and ordained be OUR SOVERAINE LORD, with advife and confent of his Regent, and the three Eftaites of this prefent Parliament, that namaner of perfon, nor perfones, ofquhat- lum-ever eftate , degree , or condition they be of, fchutt with Culveringes, Dagges, Piftolettes, or any uther Gunnes , or ingines of fyre-warke , in any part of this Realme , nouther to Burgh nor to land (except fik , as for paftime will fchutt within their Inner-clois , and zaird adjacent thereto , and Marinerres , and fik as hauntes the Seas , being aftuallie upon the famin, for defenfe of their bodies and gudes) under the paine of cutting of their right hand. Andfik-like, that na maner of perfon , nor perfones, of quhat-fum-ever eftate, condition or degree they be of , beare, weare, or ufe onie Culveringes , Dagges, Piftolettes, or anie uther fikingineoffire-wark, upon their perfones , or in their cumpanie with them privatlie or openlie , outwith houfis, without licence of our Soveraine Lorde, and his Regent had , and obteined thereupon , under the paine forefaid. PROVIDING alwayes, that the Capitanis , and men of weir, ferving our Soveraine Lord, and his Regent forefaide , a&uallie in his highnefle wages , nor zit the Liegis of this Realme, afweill in Regalitie, asRoyaltieatweapon-fchawings. Nor the Proveftes , Baillies, and inhabitantis of the Burgh of Edinburgh, or utheris Burrowes of this Realme , charged be oar Soveraine Lordis authoritie, to aflem- blies , weapon-fchawingis , and conventions , for furth-fetting of his highnes fervice and affaires , in the time thereof: nor zit nane of our Soveraine Lords liegis in their cumming , remayning , or departing to and, fra ony hoftes, weiris, armies , raidis , weapon-fchawingis or aflemblies, being fpeciallie and expreflehe com- manded and charged, to that effecl: be his Hienefle letters , and authoritie, Wardanes meittand at dayes of trews.
