And in cafe the Magiftrats of the faid Burghs, or any of them fhall not provide and have in rea- dinelle , the faids Correftion-houfes betwixt and the faid term of Whitfunday next , they ihall incur the pain and penalty offive hundred Merks Scots money, and that quarterly , untillthe Correction- houfes be pro- vided : Which penalties fhali be payed to the CommiiTioners of Excife , in the refpeftive Shires or Bounds from which the faids poor perfons fhall be fent, to the faids Correftion-houfes : And the faids Com- uniffioners are hereby warranted to raife Letters of Horning , and ufe other execution at their inffance, againft the Magiftrats of the faids Burghs for payment of the penalties that lhall be incurred by them, tin manner forefaid ; which penalties lhall be applyed by the faids Commiffioners , for building or buying »f houfes to the efTeft forefaid : And in the mean time, untillthe faids houfes be provided, the Magiftrats Jof the faid Burghs are required to difpofe of thefe Beggars and poor People , who were either born within their refpeftive Burghs, or have haunted therein the laft three years, in fome convenient places , fo as ithey may not go begging on the Streets , or at houfes within the Town. And for the better enabling of the 1 laids Burghs, to bear the charges and expencesofthe faids Correftion-houfes, His Majefty, with confent |of the faids Eftates of Parliament, Statutes and Ordains, that the Contributions and Allowances for main- taining of the Poor, appointed by the fifteenth ^ ft of the third Seffion of His Majefties firlt Parliament, Hntituled , Ac~i concerning Beggars and Vagabonds , be applyed for the ufe of the faids Correftion- uioufes, whereby they lhall have two lhillings Scots tor ilk poor perfon/<rr diem that lhall be fent to [them, and ente rtained and bred by them , for the fir ft year ; and twelve pennies Scots per diem, for the lipace of three years thereafter , during which they fhall entertain and educat them , together with the Iprofit arifing from the labour and work of the faids poor perfons , for feven years thereafter : Which [Contributions are to be payed by the Parodies relieved of the faid Poor , in manner contained in the ||faid Act. And to the effect it may be known, what poor perfons are to be fent to the faid Corrcftion- ||ioufes , and who are to be keeped and entertained by the Contributions at the Paroch-kirks for the Poor, the iMinifters of ilk Paroch , with fome of the Elders, and in cafe of Vacancy of the Kirks, three or moe of the Ifelders are hereby ordered to take up an exact Lift of all the poor perfons within their Parodies , by ■Name and Sir-name , condefcending upon their age and condition , if they be able or unable to work , by rea- jron of age , infirmity or difeafe , and where they were born , and in what Parodies they have moft haunted ■puring the laft three years , preceeding the uptaking of thefe Lifts; intimation being alwayes made to the «Jvhole Heretors of the Paroch to be prefent , and to fee the Lifts right taken up ; and that the Heretors who, lind the poileflors of their Land , are to bear the burden of the maintainanceof the poor perfons of each IParoch , or any of them who fhall meet with the faids Minifters and Elders , fhall condelcend upon fuch as |hrpugh age and infirmity , are not able to work , and appoint them places wherein to abide , that they may fie fupplied by the Contributions at the Paroch-kirk : And if the fame be not fufficient to entertain them, lpat they give them a Badge or Ticket to ask almes at the dwelling-houfes of the Inhabitants of their own ■aroch only , without the bounds whereof, they are not to beg ; and that they do not at all refort to Barks , Mercats , or any other places where there are meetings at Marriages , Baptifmes , Burials , or jjpon any other publickoccafion : Andlikewife, that fuch of the faids poor perfons as are of age and ca- pacity to work , be firft offered to the Heretors or Inhabitants of each Paroch, that if they will accept any W them to become their Apprentices or Servants , they may receive them upon their obliegment to enter- llin and fet to work the faids poor perfons, and to relieve the Paroch ofthem ; For which caufe, they Jhall i pve the bene fit of their work untill they attain the age of thirty years, conform to the tenth Aft of the wenty two Parliament of King James the fixth , and that the reft of the faids poor perfons be fent to X % the
