Silenoi and Maenads
Two nude and bearded Silenoi with horses' tails are each carrying a Maenad on their shoulders. One Maenad holds in her lap the fawn which is to be torn asunder in the ritual, while the other is beating a pair of rattles. The heads of both women are bound with garlands of ivy-leaves, which, together with the long sinuous stem dividing the two groups of figures, are among the emblems of Dionysos.
