chain is the sacred peak of Kailās, the Olympus of the Hindu gods, the axis of the universe and the way to heaven; while the ending of the Periplus is that of the Sitā-quest in the Rāmāyana:
| Halt not till you reach the country where the northern Kurus rest, |
| Utmost confines of the wide earth, home of Gods and Spirits blest!" |
