Before the Curtain rises, a hymn is sung by Pilgrims within the Temple, who answer the question of Asclepiades.

—————

CHORAL HYMN.

Asclepiades:

Whence come ye, Pilgrims to the speaking spring
Of the unconquer'd comrade, priest and King,
Far-voyaging?

———

Pilgrims:

From the Mother of Mirage, marvellous Asia,
Where elephants processionally rank'd
In far Taprobané,
Like milk white mountains meekly bow the knee,
From immemorial magical Asia,
Whose praise is sung by Brachmans yellow prank'd
Where Holy Ganga dreams through India.
