Technical and clerical amendments. TITLE I—ESTABLISHMENT OF THE SO- CIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION AS AN INDEPENDENT AGENCY SEC. 101. ESTABLISHMENT OF SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION AS AN INDEPENDENT AGENCY. Section 701 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 901) is amended to read as follows: "SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION "SEC 701. (a) There is hereby established, as an independent agency in the executive branch of the Government, a Social Security Administration (in this title referred to as the 'Administration'). "(b) It shall be the duty of the Administration to administer the old-age, survivors, and disability insurance program under title II and the supplemental security income program under title XVI. SEC. 102. COMMISSIONER AND DEPUTY COMMISSIONER; OTHER OFFI- CERS.
