ESTABLISHMENT OF SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION AS AN INDEPENDENT AGENCY. Section 701 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 901) is amended to read as follows: "SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION "SEC 701. (a) There is hereby established, as an independent agency in the executive branch of the Government, a Social Security Administration (in this title referred to as the 'Administration'). "(b) It shall be the duty of the Administration to administer the old-age, survivors, and disability insurance program under title II and the supplemental security income program under title XVI. SEC. 102. COMMISSIONER AND DEPUTY COMMISSIONER; OTHER OFFI- CERS.
