ASSISTANCE TO LOCAL EDUCATIONAL AGENCIES THAT BEN- EFIT DEPENDENTS OF MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES AND DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES. (a) CONTINUATION OF DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE PROGRAM FOR FISCAL YEAR 2002.—Of the amount authorized to be appropriated pursuant to section 301(a)(5) for operation and maintenance for Defense-wide activities— (1) $30,000,000 shall be available only for the purpose of providing educational agencies assistance to local educational agencies: and (2) $1,000,000 shall be available only for the purpose of making payments to local educational agencies to assist such agencies in adjusting to reductions in the number of military dependent students as a result of the closure or realignment of military installations, as provided in section 386(d) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1993 (Public Law 102-484; 20 U.S.C. 7703 note). (b) NOTIFICATION. —Not later than June 30, 2002, the Secretary Deadline, of Defense shall notify each local educational agency that is eligible for assistance or a payment under subsection (a) for fiscal year 2002 of— (1) that agency's eligibility for the assistance or payment; and (2) the amount of the assistance or payment for which that agency is eligible. (c) DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS. —The Secretary of Defense shall disburse funds made available under subsection (a) not later than 30 days after the date on which notification to the eligible local educational agencies is provided pursuant to subsection (b). (d) DEFINITIONS.— In this section: (1) The term "educational agencies assistance" means assistance authorized under section 386(b) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1993 (Public Law 102-484; 20 U.S.C. 7703 note). (2) The term "local educational agency has the meaning given that term in section 8013(9) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 7713(9)). SEC. 352. IMPACT AID FOR CHILDREN WITH SEVERE DISABILITIES. Of the amount authorized to be appropriated pursuant to section 301(a)(5) for operation and maintenance for Defense-wide activities, $5,000,000 shall be available for pa5mients under section 363 of the Floyd D. Spence National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2001 (as enacted into law by Public Law 106- 398; 114 Stat. 1654A-77; 20 U.S.C. 7703a). SEC. 353. AVAILABILITY OF AUXILIARY SERVICES OF DEFENSE DEPENDENTS' EDUCATION SYSTEM FOR DEPENDENTS WHO ARE HOME SCHOOL STUDENTS. Section 1407 of the Defense Dependents' Education Act of 1978 (20 U.S.C. 926) is amended— (1) by redesignating subsection (d) as subsection (e); and 37 USC 429. (2) by inserting after subsection (c) the following new subsection:
