Pr¤=¤¤¤>1¤- Whereas a Convention between the United States of America and Great Britain for the renewal of the existing modus oivendi in Beh1ing’s Sea was signed by their respective Plenipotentiaries at the City ot Washington, on the eighteentnday of April, one thonsand eight hundred and mnety-two, the orrgrnal of which Convention, being rn the English language, is word for word as follows: 0 ON VEN TI ON between the United States of America and Great Britain for the renewal of the existing “modus ’vi*vendi" in Behring’s Sea. Ante,p.101 Whereas by a Convention concluded between the United States of America and Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, on the twenty-ninth day of February, one thon~ sand eight hundred and ninety-two, the High Contracting Parties have Pm1km_ P_ 2 agreed to sub)mit to Arbitration, as thergin stateld, the questions which ` ave arisen etween them concerning the juris ictional rights o the · United States in the waters of Behring’s Sea and concerning also the preservation of the hir-seal in, or habitually resorting to, the said sea, and the rights of the citizens and subjects of either country as regards the taking of the fur-seal in, or habitually resorting to, the said waters; and whereas the High Contracting Parties, having diifered as to what restrictive Regulations for seal-hunting are necessary, druing the pendency of such Arbitration, have agreed to adjust such difference in manner hereinafter mentioned, and without prejudice to the rights of either party: rienrpmmu-rss. The said High Contracting Parties have appointed as their Plenipotentiaries to conclude a Convention for this purpose, that is to say: The President of the United States of America, James G.
