Ons. 6-8. 1894. 595 CHAP. 6.-Au Act Providing for the dedication of the Chickamauga and Chatta- December 15, 1894. nooga National Park. ··—————— Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That a national dedication of C,f*g;nk”m“g,* .•¤•l the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park shall take Psi-lk. wga °m°"i place on the battlefields of Chickamauga and Chattanooga September b£‘}‘},*‘,§*}j{°2'}, §§g’g°'“‘ nineteenth and twentieth, eighteen hundred and nipetyfive, under the` direction of the Secretary of War, who is hereby authorized to iix upon smsmy_srws» to and determine the arrangements, ceremonies, and exercises connected `l"°°° °"°"°‘“* with the dedication; to request the participation of the President, I¤*i¤¤¤<>¤¤· Congress, the Supreme Court, the heads of executive departments, the General of the Army and the Admiral of the Navy therein; to invite the governors of States and their staffs, and the survivors of the several armies there engaged, and have direction and full authority in all matters which he may deem necessary to the success of the dedication. He shall have authority to procure such supplies and services, and to Supplies, sw. call upon the heads of the several staif departments of the Army for such material and stores as he may deem necessary in connection with the dedication. Sec. 2. That to carryout the purposes of this Act the sum of twenty APP¤>P¤‘¤¤¤¤· thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated, out of any moneys in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, which shall be expended under the direction of the Secretary _ of War: Provided, That the total expenses to carry out the provisions mfg mmm of this Act, including the supplies furnished, shall not exceed the sum ` herein named. · Approved, December 15, 1894. · CHAP. 7.-Au Act To enable the Secretary of the Treasury to remit or mitigate December 15, im. linen, penalties, and forleitures. · _*;;"‘ Be it enacted by the Senate and House of , Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section fifty-two hundred “_§¤¤i¤¤i¤¤ ¤f ¤¤¤¤. and ninety-four of the Revised Statutes of the United States be, and ` is hereby, amended by the striking out of the words “ steam vessels " m*I§£;;:d*-52”*·P·*°°“· and the insertion in lieu thereof of the words “vesse1s." so that said ` section will read as follows: “ Sec. 5294. The Secretary of the Treasury may, upon application k¤mim¤¤ or p··¤·¤· therefor, remit or mitigate any fine or penalty provided lor in laws {},‘Q#],",)i:{,,i{LY' '°1"" relating to vessels, or discontinue any prosecution to recover penalties denounced in such laws, excepting the penalty of imprisonment, or of removal trom office, upon such terms as he, in his discretion, shall think proper; and all rights granted to iutormers by such laws shall be held subject to the Secretary’s power of remission, except in cases where the claim of any informer to the share of any penalty shall have been determined by a court of competent jurisdiction, prior to the application for the remission of the penalty; and the Secretary shall have authority to ascertain the facts upon all such applications, in such manner and under such regulations as he may deem proper."
