That for the purpose of obtaining the additional land necessary to d,gg§1g{*¤{;Ql§,;°;rgg complete the allotments herein provided for the Secretary of the Inte- Menommes, em. rior is hereby authorized and directed to negotiate, through an Indian inspector, with the Menominee tribe of Indians of Wisconsin for the cession and relinquishment to the United States of a portion of the surplus land of the Menominee Reservation in said State, or to negotiate with the authorities of said State, or with any cor oration, firm, or _ individual, for the purchase of said additional land : grovided, however, f{,§°;'§”'$'}‘p,,c,,_ That in no event shall any agreement of cession or contract of purchase so negotiated stipulate that a sum reater than two dollars per acre shall be paid for the land so obtained': And prwidedfurther, That no A¥’P'°""l· such agreement or contract shall have any force or validity unless the same shall be a proved by the Secretary of the Interior; or said Secretary may, in Ins discretion, utilize such unappropriated public lands of the United States as may be required to complete the allotments. That certain members of the Stockbridge and) Munsee tribe having ,m§’;,‘;‘}hr§;’I‘{fd§;*,§;"P made selections of land on tracts patented to the State of Wisconsin ` under the swamp—land Acts, and having made valuable improvements thereon, the Secretary of the Interior is hereby authorized to cause said improvements to be appraised by an inspector or special agent or Indian agent of his Department, and to pay to the owners, as their interests may appear, the appraised value of said improvements, in all not to exceed the sum of one thousand dollars, out ot the moneys here inafter appropriated.
