BUREAU OF CHEMISTRY. ‘ c¤=¢¤=i¤¤¤·B¤¤¢·¤- Sanamns BUREAU or CHEMISTRY; One chemist, who shall be chief S¤1¤¤¤¤- of bureau, five thousand dollars; one chief clerk, one thousand eight hundred dollars; three clerks, class four; five clerks, class three; eight clerks, class two; one pro erty clerk, one thousand six hundred dollars; one clerk, one thousand) three hundred dollars; eleven clerks, class one; nine clerks, at one thousand dollars each; one assistant ‘ propertg custodian, nine hundred dollars; eleven clerks, at nine undre dollars each; two meswngers, at eight hundred and forty dollars each; one skilled laborer, nme hundred dollars; two skilled laborers, at seven hundred and twenty dollars each; one skilled laborer, six hundred dollars; four messe ers or laborers at six hundred dollars each; six messengers or llsixiiorers, at four hundred and eighty dollars each; two messengers or laborers, at four hundred and twentg dollars each; one messenger or laborer, three hundred and sixty ollars; four charwomen at two hundred and forty dollars each; in all, seventy-nine thousand three hundred and sixty dollars. · GENERAL EXPENSES, BUREAU or Cimmsrizrz For necessary ¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¢¤v•¤¤¤¤~ expenses in conducting the investi ations contemplated by the Act v¤1.12,p.ss1. of May fifteenth, eighteen hundred and sixty-two, relating to the application of chemistry; to agriculture in the most general and comprehensive sense of t at word, and to continue collaboration with other de artments of the Government desiring chemical investigations and) whose heads request the Secretary o Agriculture for such assistance, and for other rmscellaneous work, as follows: For chemical apparatus, chemicals and supplies, repairs to apparatus, gas, electric current, official traveling expenses, telegraph and tele hone service, express and freight charges, thirty-six thousand dollizrs; for rent and the employment of such assistants, clerks, and other persons as the Secretary of Agriculture may consider necessary for the purposes named, in the city of Washington and elsewhere in conducting investigations collating and reporting the results of such investigations, and for the rent o buildings in the city of Washington and elsewhere, seventy-three thousand dollars; for investigatin the character of the chemical and physical tests which are applief to American food products in foreign countries, and for inspecting the same before shipment when desired by the shippers or owners of these products intended for countries where chemical and physical tests are repuired before the said products are allowed to be sold therein, and or all necessary expenses in connection with such inspection and studies of methods o analysis in foreign countries, five thousand dollars.
