 WHEREAS, by Proclamations, the President of the United States

Wgshincgcn. has, at various times, created certain National Forests, within the mm I°‘ the State of Washington; and _ WHEREAS, In order to provide for a roper ad]ustment of the claims of the State to lands within said National Forests, in satisfaction of its common school grant, a memorandum of agreement was entered into under date of December 22, 1914, between the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and the State of Wash- ` ton, whereby it was agreed that the said State should relinquish lallfits title or c aim under its grant in aid of common schools to the whole or parts of certain sections sixteen and thirty-six included within the said National Forests prior to siu·vey, or ugon which homestead settlements had been made prior to survex an inclusion within such reservations and legally maintained an be allowed to select other lands equivalent in acreage and value lying along and within the bonmdaries of said National Forests in suc position that, when eliminated therefrom, all of said selected lands will lie outside the new exterior boundaries of the National Forests; and WHEREAS, It appears that the public interests would be promoted gy modifgng Executive Order of Jiil 1, 1908, creating the Columbia V°l· 3°· P· ’6°*· ational orest, and Proclamation Mlay 9, 1910 8.H6Ch1Dg the Colville National Forest, so as to exclude the areas first hereinafter described, and also so as to allow the State of Washington, in furtherance of the aforesaid agreement, to make selections o the lands agreed upon for selection, and hereinafter described, as indemnity in satisfaction of the aforesaid portions of its common schoollbgrant;
