Grade 7 in this service, which may be referred to as the head professional grade, shall include all classes of positions the duties of which are to act as assistant head of one of the largest and most important professional or scientific bureaus, or to act as the scientific and administrative head of a major professional or scientific bureau, or to act as professional consultant to a department head or a com . mi ssion or boa rd dea ling w ith pr ofessi onal, s cienti fic, o r tech nical problems, or to perform professional or scientific work of equal im portance, difficul ty, and r esponsibi lity . The annual rates of co mpensa tion f or posi tions in thi s grad e shal l be $6,500 . $7,000, and $7,500, unless a higher rate is specifically authorized by law . Grade 8 in this service, which may be referred to as the chief pr ofessiona l grade, shall inc lude all classes of positi ons the d uties of which are to act as the administrative head of one of the largest and most important professional or scientific bureaus, or to perform pr ofessi onal o r scie ntific work of equ al impo rtance , diff iculty , and re sponsibil ity . The annual rates of compensation for positions in this grade shall be $8,000, $8,500, and $9,000, unless a higher rate is specifically authorized by law . Grade 9 in this service, which may be referred to as the special professional grade, shall include all positions which are or may be specifically authorized or appropriated for at annual rates of compensation in excess of $9,000 . SI IBPR OFE SSIO NAL SERV ICE The s ubprof ession al ser vice s hall i nclude all cl asses of pos itions the duties of which are to perform work which is incident, subor- d inate , or prep arato ry to the work requ ired of e mploy ees h oldi ng pos itions in the prof essional and scien tific ser vice, and which re quires or involves professional, scientific, or technical training of any degree inferior to that represented by graduation from a college or uni versit y of r ecogni zed st anding . Grade 1 in this service, which may be referred to as the minor sub professio nal grade , shall i nclude al l classes of posit ions the duties of which are to perform, under immediate supervision, the simplest rou tine work in a pro fessional , scienti fic, or t echnical organizat ion . The annual rate of compensation for positions in this grade shall be $1,020, $1,080, $1,140, $1,200, $1,260, and $1,320. Grade 2 in this service, which may be referred to as the under- sub professio nal grade , shall i nclude al l classes of posit ions the duties of which are to perform, under immediate supervision, assigned sub- ord inate work o f a pr ofessi onal, scient ific, o r tech nical charac ter, requiring limited training or experience, but not the exercise of independent judgment . The an nual r ates o f comp ensati on for positi ons in this grade shall be $1,260, $1,320, $1 .380, $1,440, $1,500, and $1,560. Grade 3 in this service, which may be referred to as the junior sub professio nal grade , shall i nclude al l classes of posit ions the duties of which are to perform, under immediate supervision, subordinate work of a professional, scientific, or technical character, requiring considerable training or experience, but not the exercise of inde- pendent judgment.
