SALARIES OF FOREIGN SERVICE OFFICERS For salaries of Foreign Service officers as provided in the Act approved February 23, 1931 (U . S . C ., title 22, sets . 3, 3a) ; salaries of Ambassadors, Ministers, consuls, vice consuls, and other officers of th e Uni ted S tates for the p eriod actu ally and n ecess arily occu - pied in receiving instructions and in making transits to and from their posts, and while awaiting recognition and authority to act in pursuance with the provisions of section 1740 of the Revised Statutes (U . S . C., title 22, sec . 121) ; and salaries of Foreign Service officers or vice consuls while acting as Charges d'Affaires ad interim or while in charge of a consulate general or consulate during the absence of the principal officer ; $3,341,500 . TRA NSPORT ATION OF FOR EIGN S ERVICE OFFIC ERS To pay the traveling expenses, including travel by air plane when spec ifica lly a uthor ized by th e Sec retar y of State , of Diplomatic, Cons ular, and Forei gn Se rvice offi cers, and other empl oyees of t he Foreign Service, including Foreign Service inspectors and under such regulations as the Secretary of State may prescribe, of their families and expenses of transportation of effects, in going to and returning from their posts, including not to exceed $100,000 for expenses incurred in connection with leaves of absence, and of the preparation and transportat ion of the remains of those officers and said employees of the Foreign Service, who have died or may die abroad or in transit while in the discharge of their official duties, to their former homes in this country or to a place not more distant for inte rment and for t he or dinar y exp enses of s uch i nterm ent, and also for payment under the provisions of section 1749 of the Revised Statutes (U . S . C., title 22, sec . 130) of allowances to the widows or heirs at law of Diplomatic, Consular, and Foreign Service officers of the United States dying in foreign countries in the discharge of their duties, $546,700 : Provided, That this appropriation shall be available also for the authorized subsistence expenses of Consular and Foreign Service officers while on temporary detail under comm ission .
