COMMUNITY CENTER DEPARTMENT For personal services of the director, general secretaries, and com- munity secretaries in accordance with the Act approved June 4, 1924 (43 Stat ., pp . 369, 370) ; clerks and part-time employees, including janitors on account of meetings of parent-teacher associations and other activities, and contingent expenses, equipment, supplies, and light ing fixtu res, $102 ,000 . CARE OF BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS For perso nal s ervic es, inclu ding care of s malle r bu ildin gs an d rented rooms at a rate not to exceed $96 per annum for the care of each schoolroom, other than those occupied by atypical or ungraded classes, for which service an amount not to exceed $120 per annum may be allowed, $942,705 . For purchase and repair of furniture, tools, machinery, material, and books, and apparatus to be used in connection with instruction in m anual and vo cation al tra ining, and in cident al exp enses connec ted therewith, $64,000, to be immediately available . For fuel, gas, and electric light and power, $325,000 . For contingent expenses, including United States flags, furniture and repairs of same, including not exceeding $10,000 for the purchase of furniture and equipment for the Phelps Vocational School, sta- tionery, ice, paper towels, and other necessary items not otherwise provided for, and including not exceeding $13,000 for books of refer- ence and periodicals, of which $5,000 shall be available for the pur- chase of such books for the Wilson Teachers College, not exceeding $1,500 for replacement of pianos at an average cost of not to exceed $300 each, not exceeding $6,800 for labor ; in all, $140,000, to be imme- diat ely avail able, of which not to ex ceed $1,2 00 ma y be expe nded for tabulating school census cards either by contract or by day labor as the Commissioners may determine : Provided, That a bond shall not be required on account of military supplies or equipment issued by the War Department for military instruction and practice by the students of high schools in the District of Columbia .
