Maint enance, etc . 75TH CONGRESS, 1sT SESSION-CH . 403-JUNE 29, 1937 $3,500, and no part of the money herein appropriated shall be used for the purpose of visiting any ward of the Board of Public welfare placed outside the District of Columbia and the States of Virginia and Maryland ; and a ward placed outside said District and the States of Virginia and Maryland shall be visited not less than once a year by a voluntary agent or correspondent of said Board, and that said Board shall have power, upon proper showing, in its discretion, to discharge from guardianship any child committed to its care . For board and care of all children committed to the guardianship of said Board by the courts of the District, and for temporary care of children pending investigation or while being transferred from place to place, with authority to pay not more than $1,500 each to institutions under sectarian control and not more than $400 for burial of children dying while under charge of the Board, $275,000 . To carry out the purposes of the Act entitled "An Act to provide home care for dependent children in the District of Columbia", approved June 22, 1926 (44 Stat ., pp . 758-760), including not to exceed $13,060 for personal services in the District of Columbia, $163,000 : Provided, That this appropriation shall be so apportioned by the Commissioners as to prevent a deficiency therein, and no more than $100 per month shall be paid therefrom to any one family and no more than $400 shall be paid for burial of children dying while beneficiaries under said Act . For the maintenance, under the jurisdiction of the Board of Public welfare, of a suitable place in a building entirely separate and apart from the house of detention for the reception and deten- t ion of c hildren under se venteen y ears of age arre sted by the poli ce on charge of offense against any laws in force in the District of Columbia, or committed to the guardianship of the Board, or held as witnesses, or held temporarily, or pending hearing, or otherwise, including transportation, food, clothing, medicine, and medicinal supplies, rental, repair and upkeep of buildings, fuel, gas, electricity, . ice, supplies and equipment, and other necessary expenses including n ot to exceed $19,120 for personal s ervices, $38,000 . The disbursing officer of the District of Columbia is authorized t o advanc e to the directo r of publ ic welfa re, upon requisi tions pr e- viously approved by the auditor of the District of Columbia and upon such security as may b e required of said director b y the Commi ssio ners, sums of money not to e xceed $400 at any o ne ti me, to be used for expenses in placing and visiting children, traveling on official business of the board, and for office and sundry expenses, all such expenditures to be accounted for to the accounting officers of the District of Columbia within one month on itemized vouchers properly approved . JAIL Salaries : For personal services, $86,600. For maintenance and support of prisoners of the District of Columbia at the jail, expenses incurred in identifying and pursuing escaped prisoners and rewards for their capture ; repair and im- provements to buildings, cells, and locking devices ; newspapers, books, and periodicals not to exceed $100 ; purchase including exchange of one truck, $700 ; maintenance of non-passenger-carrying motor vehicle ; purchase of one motor-driven extractor, $2,200 ; and expense of electrocutions, $84, 900 .
