nection with matters falling within the Commission's jurisdiction: Provided, That transfers of funds may be made to other agencies of the Government for the performance of work for which this appropriation is made. International Boundary Commission, United States, Alaska, and Canada, the completion of such remaining work as may be required under the award of the Alaskan Boundary Tribunal and the existing treaties between the United States and Great Britain; commutation of subsistence to employees while on field duty, not to exceed $6 per day each (but not to exceed $3 per day each when a member of a field party and subsisting in c a m p); hire of freight and passenger motor vehicles from temporary field employees; and payment for timber necessarily cut in keeping the boundary line clear. For expenses, not otherwise provided for, necessary to enable the United States to meet its obligations in connection with participation in international fisheries commissions pursuant to treaties or conventions, and implementing Acts of Congress; $310,000: Provided, That the United States share of such expenses may be advanced to the respective commissions. INTERNATIONAL EDUCATIONAL EXCHANGE ACTIVITIES
For necessary expenses, not otherwise provided for, to enable the Department of State to carry out international educational exchange activities, as authorized by the United States Information and Educational Exchange Act of 1948 (22 U.S.C. 1431-1479), and the Act of A u ^ s t 9, 1939 (22 U.S.C. 501), and to administer the programs authorized by section 32(b)(2) of the Surplus Property Act of 1944, as amended (50 U.S.C. App. 1641 (b)) (except in Germanv and Austria), the Act of August 24, 1949 (20 U.S.C. 222-224), the Act of September 29, 1950 (20 U.S.C. 225), including salaries, expenses, and allowances of personnel and dependents as authorized by the Foreign Service Act of 1946, as amended (22 U.S.C. 801-1158); expenses of attendance at meetings concerned with activities provided for under this appropriation • hire of passenger motor vehicles; entertainment within the United States (not to exceed $1,000); services as authorized by section 15 of the Act of August 2, 1946 (5 U.S.C. 55a); advance of funds notwithstanding section 3648 of the Revised Statutes as amended; and actual expenses of preparing and transporting to their former homes the remains of persons, not United States Government employees, who may die away from- their homes while participating in activities authorized under this appropriation; $14,700,000, of which not less than $7,560,166 shall be used to purchase foreign currencies or credits owed to or owned by the Treasury of the United States.

For expenses necessary to enable the Commission to settle certain claims of the Government of the United States on its own behalf and on behalf of American nationals against foreign governments as authorized by the Act of March 10, 1950, as amended (22 U.S.C. 1621-1627), including expenses of attendance at meetings of organizations concerned with the purpose of this appropriation; hire of passenger motor vehicles for field use only; services as authorized by section 15 of the Act of August 2, 1946 (5 U.S.C. 55a); and employment of aliens; $130,000.
