COURT OF CLAIMS SALARIES AND EXPENSES
For salaries of the chief judge, six associate judges, and all other officers and employees of the court, and for other necessary expenses, including stenographic and other fees and charges necessary in the taking of testimony, and travel, $1,425,000. For salaries of circuit judges; district judges (including judges of the district courts of the Virgin Islands, the Panama Canal Zone, and G u a m); justices and judges retired or resigned under title 28, United States Code, sections 371,372, and 373; and annuities of widows of Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States in accordance with title 28, United States Code, section 375; $15,857,000.

SALARIES OF S U P P O R T I N G P E R S O N N E L
For salaries of all officials and employees of the Federal Judiciary, not otherwise specifically provided for, $37,350,000: Provided, That the compensation of secretaries and law clerks of circuit and district judges shall be fixed by the Director of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts without regard to the Classification Act of 1949, as amended, except that the salary of a secretary shall conform "yl'c'io^yY with that of the General Schedule grades (GS) 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10, note. as the appointing judge shall determine, and the salary of a law clerk shall conform with that of the General Schedule grades (GS) 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12, as the appointing judge shall determine, subject to ^"^^' ^ ^®^ review by the Judicial Conference of the United States if requested by the Director, such determination by the judge otherwise to be final: Provided further, That (exclusive of step increases corresponding with those provided for by title VII of the Classification Act of 1949, 76 as amended, and of compensation paid for temporary assistance needed 5 u Stat. 847. s e 1121because of an emergency) the aggregate salaries paid to secretaries 1123. and law clerks appointed by one judge shall not exceed $18,803 per annum, except in the case of the chief judge of each circuit and the chief judge of each district court having five or more district judges, in which case the aggregate salaries shall not exceed $25,072 per annum. For compensation and reimbursement of expenses of attorneys appointed to represent defendants in criminal cases and for investigative, expert or other services pursuant to the Criminal Justice Act of 1964 (62 Stat. 684), $3,000,000.
