EXECUTIVE RESIDENCE

OPERATING EXPENSES

For the care, maintenance, repair and alteration, refurnishing, improvement, heating and lighting, including electric power and fixtures, of the Executive Residence, to be expended as the President may determine, notwithstanding the provisions of this or any other Act, and official entertainment expenses of the President to be accounted for solely on his certificate, $2,575,000. For the care, maintenance, repair and alteration, furnishing, improvement, heating and lighting, including electric power and fixtures, of the official residence of the Vice President, and for official entertainment expenses of the Vice President, to be accounted for solely o n his certificate, $129,000: Provided, That advances or repayments o r transfers from this appropriation may be made to any department or agency for expenses of carrying out such activities. SPECIAL ASSISTANCE TO THE PRESIDENT SALARIES AND EXPENSES

For expenses necessary to enable the Vice President to provide assistance to the President in connection with specially assigned functions, services as authorized by 5 U.S.C. 3109, b u t at rates for individuals not to exceed the per diem equivalent of the rate for grade G S - 1 8, 5 USC 5332 note, compensation for one position a t a r a t e not to exceed the r a t e of level II 5 USC 5313. of the Executive Schedule, and other personal services without regard to the provisions of law regulating the employment and compensation of persons in the Government service, including hire of passenger motor vehicles, $1,280,000. For necessary expenses of the Council in carrying out its functions under the Employment Act of 1946 (15 U.S.C. 1021), $2,042,000.
