student and attended Beloit College, Beloit, Wis., from 1918 to 1920 taking the B. A. degree with honors. He then went to the University of Chicago where he received the M. A. degree in 1921 and the next year received the Ph. D. degree, his thesis being on the “Central and Local Finances of China.” After returning from America he joined the faculty of Fuh Tan University of Shanghai as professor of economics and commercial subjects. He was soon appointed dean of the School of Commerce and in 1924 was appointed dean of the Collegiate Department which position he is still holding.
