This song first appeared in a 1597 publication.

Front page of First Booke of Songes or Ayres of Foure Partes with Tableture for the Lute, 1597

I haven't been able to check the 1610 publication referenced in an earlier version of this page, but this song appears not to be in it - see (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Musical_Banquet. Also, the spelling has been modernised by someone....some confusion here? -Thoughtfortheday (talk) 09:11, 18 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Which is why we are very strong on the stating of the provenance of a work; edits to works; and why we allow duplicates of works when there is differences between versions. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:40, 18 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

There are two version of the text's fourth verse available on the internet. Which can be considered original: "that I die must" or "that die I must" ?

The text in the original 1597 edition reads "Or cut of delayes if that dye I must." Modernized editions may change the word order in addition to the spellings. Prosody (talk) 01:02, 11 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
