This is mentioned in Betty T. Bennett's Mary Diana Dods, A Gentleman and a Scholar (1991):

• "Not hearing from Blackwood, on October 10, he sends a goblin tale; the original was very long and some parts bordered on the ludicrous, so he has altered the story accordingly. He has also changed its name to “Shade of the Bridegroom.”" (p. 55)

and listed in the bibliography as:

• "“Shade of the Bridegroom” (“Der Bräutigam’s Vorschem”)" (p. 293)

It seems that, after being rejected by Blackwood, the title was changed to "The Three Damsels" either by Dods, or the editor of Forget Me Not. --Yodin^T 00:27, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
