Cross vs Torture-Stake

So a user has edited "cross" in the book and has changed it to read "torture-stakes". Alright, so we need to decide if the original version designates a cross-beam or an ambiguous piece of wood. Note that any translation which simply assumes the object to be a cross, without the proper word used, is completely fallacious. The Romans used many shapes for this manner of execution, and it should not be merely assumed which one. However, if this is taken directly from a translation which rendered the word "crosses", then it should remain "crosses" unless someone can think of a compromise. --68.46.208.247 06:03, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the catch. I own the Church and Brodribb translation and the correct word is crosses. It was an improper edit that Zyepherus didn't notice, but I have warned the anonymous user. ResScholar (talk) 06:34, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Correct wording

The references to "Christ" and "Christians" are not correct. It has been shows via ultraviolet light that "Christians" was actually "Chrestians" which was changed by a later scribe. More over "Christus" is in reality "Chrstus" which depending on the translator has been rendered "Christus" or "Chrestus" (Köstenberger, Andreas J. (2009). The Cradle, the Cross, and the Crown. p. 110. uses "Chrestus" for example.--BruceGrubb (talk) 12:10, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
