Nelson, Hon. Hugh Muir, M.L.A., was born at Kilmarnock on Dec. 31st, 1836. He is the son of the Rev. Dr. Nelson, and was educated at the High School, Edinburgh, and the Edinburgh University. In 1863 he arrived in Queensland, and was elected to the Assembly for Northern Downs at the general election in 1883. In 1888 he was returned for Murilla, and was appointed Secretary for Railways in the McIlwraith Ministry in June 1888. This post he retained when the Ministry was reconstructed under Mr. Morehead, in November of that year. He resigned with his colleagues in August 1890.
