KOBERSTEIN, kō'bėr-stīn, Karl, German
dramatist: b. Schulpforta, 15 Feb. 1836;
d. Wilmersdorf, 15 Sept. 1899. He was son of
Karl August K. (q.v.). He studied at the
Stettin Gymnasium, then dedicated his life to
the stage (1856). He was a member of the
Dresden Court Theatre from 1862 till his
retirement (1883). He gained renown through
his tragedies ‘Florian Geyer’ (Dresden 1863)
and ‘König Erich XIV’ (ib. 1869), and the
comedy ‘Was Gott zuzammenfügt, das soll der
Mensch nicht scheiden’ (ib. 1872). He
published the ‘Preussisches Bilderbuckh’ (Leipzig
1887).
