The Soldier’s Prayer.

O most merciful God, unto Thee alone in times of danger and of fear can we look for support. Away from our homes, surrounded by temptations and perils, contending with foes without and with foes within, and exposed to death continually. O Lord, we come to Thee for strength.

Bless Thou us in this time of our country’s peril; give success to our cause, and grant us a speedy restoration of peace.

Preserve our lives, if in accordance with Thy will, O God, amid the dangers of battle, but, above all, may our souls be saved from eternal death, through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Should we fall in battle, may our dying heads rest upon Thy bosom, and may our souls be received into glory.

All of which we ask through the name, and for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be glory evermore.

The Only Plea.

Just as I am, without one plea
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidd’st me come to Thee—
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot—
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind;
Sight, riches, healing of the mind,
Yea, all I need, in Thee I find,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings within, and fears without—
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
With welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve,
Because Thy promise I believe—
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thy love unknown
Has broken every barrier down;
Now to be Thine, yea Thine alone—
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
