AUTOMOBILISM.
The winner of to-day's heat for the Grand Prix of the French Automobile Club was Sisz, on a Renault Frères' car, with Michelin tires. He covered the 619 kilomètres eight mètres in 5h. 45min. 32 2-5sec.—that is to say, at about and an average of 108 kilomètres an hour. He passed the winning post at a little less than 12 minutes to 12, and was followed by Clement, on a Bayard-Clement, with Dunlop tires ; Nazzaro, on a F.I.A.T., with Michelin tires ; Shepheard, on a Hotchkiss ; Barillier, on a Brasier ; Richez, on a Renault Frères'; Heath, on a Panhard-Levassor ; Lancia, on a F.I.A.T. ; Hemery, on a Darracq ; and Rigolly on a Gobron.
It appears that the substance used for the tarring of the road has substitued for the dust a penetrating cloud of minute particles, which hurt the eyes of most of the drivers. Few accidents are reported, and none that is really serious. The cars of Le Blon and Fabry capsized, and were more or less smashed without injury to either driver. One of the causes of Sisz's success is said to be the rapidity with which he managed to change his rubber tires. The whole operation was accomplished in less than two minutes.
