DEATH OF LORD FORBES
As announced in our later editions yesterday, Lord Forbes, premier baron of Scotland was found dead in a hotel at Dundee yesterday morning with his throat cut.
Lord Forbes who was 85 years of age, had been living at Dundee for several weeks. Early yesterday morning the proprietor, in making his customary inspection of the hotel, found the door of Lord Forbes's room open and the room itself dark. On going into the room he discovered Lord Forbes in a reclining position at the fireside with a deep wound in his throat. There was a great quantity of blood on the floor. Beside the body a penknife was found. The police were at once informed. Several relatives arrived in Dundee yesterday and identified the body, amongst them being his brother, the Hon. Atholl Monson Forbes, of Brux Lodge, who now succeeds to the title. The body will be removed to Castle Forbes, Aberdeenshire, where the interment will take place.
Lord Forbes was a man of kindly disposition and did many acts of unostentatious charity. He was a stanch member of the Scottish Episcopal Church, which has been largely indebted to him for numerous benefactions, He was an ardent supporter of the Primrose League.
