AC B, p.2 column 2c towards the end: roma cond{itur} a {ge}minis fratribus remo et {romulo} x{i} kalendas mai. die sanc{te} pal(is). My latest improved reading of this passage in the MS (with conjectural readings in { } brackets, expanded contraction signs in italics) is ' roma cond{i}tur a {ge}mínís {fratri}bus remo et {romulo} x{i} kalendas maí . die sancte palis '. This is a reference to Rome being founded on the day 'sacred to the Pales' or 'of the sacred Pales'. See Founding of Rome. 'During the Roman Republic, several dates were given for the founding of the city between 753 BC and 728 BC. Finally, under the Roman Empire, the date suggested by Marcus Terentius Varro, 753 BC, was agreed upon, but in the Fasti Capitolini the year given was 752. Although the proposed years varied, all versions agreed that the city was founded on April 21, the day of the festival sacred to Pales, goddess of shepherds; in her honour, Rome celebrated the Par ilia (or Palilia).' --Henrywgc (talk) 16:56, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
