Clearly, I have no idea what I'm doing.

You're doing fine. The trick to make templates work is to use a | sign where you used /. Have another look at that page in the Dictionary of Slang and see how I've done it. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 03:16, 30 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I think I got it, but now 1)am I ansering your message properly? and 2) did I correct the header (p.12 Dictionary...) properly?

The only thing you're missing from the message is your signature. The way we sign our messages is to use ~~~~. i.e. 4 ~ in a row.

For the header template, you're missing the }} from the end, and the content is a little tangled. It should look like: {{RunningHeader|left=12|center=Academy—According to.}}. The field names are optional, so you could do it like: {{RunningHeader|12|Academy—According to.}}. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 04:03, 30 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
