Rhodes, James Ford (1848– ), American historian (see 23.257), was awarded in 1910 the gold medal of the National Institute of Arts and Letters. He published in 1913 Lectures on the American Civil War (delivered at Oxford in 1912); in 1917 History of the Civil War; and in 1919 History of the United States from Hayes to McKinley, being the eighth volume of his History of the United States, of which the first appeared in 1893 and the seventh in 1906.
