OAKES, or OKES (JOHN), printer in London; Little St. Bartholomews neare Smithfield, 1636-44. Son of Nicholas Okes (1606-39). Took up his freedom January 14th, 1627, and was for some years in partnership with his father. They had a large and old established business, originally founded by Thomas Judson in 1586. John Okes printed for Daniel Frere, Thomas Nabbes' tragedy of The Unfortunate Mother, 1640.
