אקנייתא, אקניאתא ch. pl., הקנאה h. f (קניI) giu- ing possession, whence א׳ שטרי or ה׳ שטר an agreement by which one's landed estate is morgaged in the form of a sale from date, independent of the loan to be consum- mated afterwards, so that at a certain date the creditor can claim the property, even if sold in the meantime, by referring to the priority of his purchase; deed of trans- fer (v. Bloch Civilk Process, p. b4, notes 5 a. 6 a. quot. ib.). B. Mets. 13a; 14a; 16b. B. Bath. 172a אקניאתא שטרא (שטרי, Ms. M. ib. a. B. אקסיוס, אכסיוס m. (~~~~) worthy, adequate. Gen. R. s. 46 'l am God Shadda (Gen. XVII, 1) is trans- ated by Aquilaואקנוס אקווס Ar. (ed. אכסיוס, אכסיוט, corr. acc.) (ao~ and (zai) (יo~, adequate and sufficient (com- petent); cmp. ibid. וכ׳ דייך it is sufficient for thee that I am thy protector.

אקרוקתא f. (קרקר) [croaker,] frog. B. Bath. 73b א׳ (Var. אקורקרתא, &c., v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 3) דחויא וכ׳ כי a frog as big as Rort Hag. (others read בי, a frog which was in Fort H.). Ned. 41a א׳ על דיתיבא עקרבא נהרא ועברה (corr. ed. acc.) a scorpion sitting on a frog and crossing the river.
אקרפטא, קרפטא, קרפיטא m. (κραβατος. grabatus) couch, raised upholstered seat. M. Kat. 10b למבני א׳ Ar. (ed. אקרפיטא, Ms. M. אקרפיטרא) to build up a. raised seat (on a frame). [Rashi אקרופיטא crib.] Kidd. 70a אקר׳ מר ליתיב sit down, Sir, on the couch; (cmp. איצטבא, the Chald. equivalent of our w.).

אראל m. (b. h., Is. XXXIII, 7,=אלאל, v. אלל, cmp. אמרכל) messengcr, esp. (in poetry) angel. Pl. אראלים. Keth. 104a וכ׳ ומצוקים א׳ the Erelim (angels) and the mortals seized the holy ark (strove for the soul of R. Judah); Y. Kil. IX, 32b top וא׳ יצוקים; Y. Keth. XII, 35a; Koh. ארב (b. h.; אר, v. ארר, cmp. ארג) 1) to press into holes, to make holes; to weave; join. 2) to look through. a hole, to espy, lurk, lie in wait. B. Kam. 44b, a. e. (ref. to Deut. XIX, 11) וכ׳ לו וא׳ it says 'And he lurks for him' &c., that means the intention tto kkill thatt man. -- Denom. ארובה, אורבא, ארבל׳, ארבא, ארבתא.
*ארב ch. same, part. ארבא lurking. B. Mets. 101b;, B. Kam. 85a; B. Bath. 168a thou appearest to me כאריא א׳ like a lurking lion, i. e. I have no confidence in thee.
ארבא I f. (ארב to join, cmp. ארגז, תיבה) boat. B. Mets. 101b דחמרא א׳ a boat-load of wine; a. fr. -- Gitt. 6a; Kidd. 72a וכ׳ תנייתא א׳ Ar. ed. Koh.
