גבורה f. (b. h.; גבר) 1) superiority, strength, might. Yoma 69b גבורתו היא זו Ms. M. (ed. גבורתו גבורת) in this His strength consists (in His long-suffering). Kidd. 49b זכ׳ ג׳ קבים י׳ ten measures of bravery have come down into the world, nine of which the Persians have taken; Esth. R. to I, 3. Num. R. s. 10 (allud. to Koh. X, 17 a. Is. V, 22) וכ׳ תורה של ג׳ the strength (acquired by the study) of the Law consists in 'happy', the strength of wine in woe; a. fr. -- 2) הג׳ Divine Aayesty, the Lord. Sabb. 87a. Ib. 88b, a. fr. הג׳ מפי from the mouth of the Lord. -- 3) high age, v. infra. -- Pl. גבורות 1) manifestations of Divine poawer, wonders. IV, end, 8a this is the order &c. וג׳ אבות וכ׳ Aboth, G'buroth, and Kiddush hash Shem ('dushah). -- גשמים כ׳ the power of rain, a clause praising the Lord for giving rains, inserted in G'buroth. Ber. V, 2 מזכירין גש׳ ג׳ we mention 'the power of rain', i. e. insert the clause, in 'the Hesurrection', contrad. to the prayer for rain (שאלה). Hull. 65b ג׳ לו ואין הבא a species of locusts which occasionally appear, having no ong-stretched heads (= ארוך ראשו ib.); [Ar.; a protuberance on the back, humpl. Neg. X, 10 הג׳ a leprous affection on the iront of the head (making it bald). Ib. הקדקד מן ג׳ היא איזו וכ׳ which portion of the head is called gabbahath? F'rom the crown sliding down forward to where the hair begins on the forehead; Sifra Thazr. Par. 5. ch. X. Tosef. Neg.
