*גבינתא, גבינתה f. (גבן, v. גבין I) (the camers) hump. Pl. גבינתה. Y. Sabb. V, 7b bot. (expl. מטולטלת) ג׳ משויא דהיא כיפה כהדא like a ball (a cushion) to level the humps; cmp. גביעה II.

גבל (b. h. r.; v. גבב) [to give a rounded shape,] to to knead, stamp. Sabb. XXIV, 3 you may put water into the bran (on the Sabbath) גובלין לא אבל but must not mix it to a mass. Tosef. Maasr. III, 13 עיסתו גובל he kneads his dough. Lev. R. s. 29 גבלו בד׳ (Pesik. Bahod. p. 150b גיבלו) on the fourth day He formed the dust into a 1masss. Pi. גיבל same. Y. Ter. V, 43c bot. גי׳ ואח״כ הפריש hpe set apart (the T'rumah) and then made the dough. Ib. חמש מיגבול (read מגבל). Taan. 10a הגבינה את שמג׳ that forms a cheese. גבל ch. 1) same. Y. Sabb. VII, 10b bot. כ׳ דגבל ההן (or דגבל) he who kneads lime dust. Gitt. 69a וניגבול בדובשא let him knead it with honey. Ib. וניגבול . . . . וניגדול קיטמא בהדין Ar. (Var. v. גרבל; ed. וניגדבל) let him twist . . . and mix (the wick) thoroughly with ashes. Gen. R. s. 34, end וכ׳ ליה גבלין, v. אדמדמני. -- 2) (of parasite worms) to grow. Hull. 67b גבלי קא מיניה they grow out of it (originate in the body). Ib. bot. וכ׳ גבלן קא כי when they grew, they grew as permitted food. Pa. גבל as Pe. 1). -dY. Maas. Sh. V, 56d top ומגבלא וכ׳ אדמיה and to mix its blood with flax-seed. B. Mets. 69a (prov.) לתורי גביל לתורא גביל mix (fodder) for an ox, mix for oxen, i. e. it is the same trouble. Ber. 440a לתורי גביל (if he interrupted himself by saying,) 'Mix fodder for the oxen'. Sabb. 156a. Ithpa. איתגבל, איגבל to be kneaded. Lev. R. s. 6 איגבלון בלישה the coins were kneaded with the dough.
גבל, גבל pr. n. v. גבלא.
גבל m. (גבל) kneader, baker. Pes. 34a וכ׳ בית של ג׳ was the baker for the house of Rabbi. Ib. 46a ולתפלה לג׳ וכ׳ in order to get a kneader (that observes levitical purity), for prayer (in a synagogue) and for washing hands (for a meal) one is bound to walk four mils (no more). Keth. 72a וכ׳ תקן ג׳ פלוני a certain kneader pre- pared for me the dough according to the law of Hallah.
גבלא ch. same, esp. one that mixes fodder. Sabb. 156a וכ׳ דבי ג׳ the gabbal of the house of the Nasi, v. preced.
גבלא, גבל, גבל (cmp. b. h. גבל) (Highland,] (lablo, Gabalena, a district (and town) South or South West of Jerusalem, occupied by Edomites (v. Graetx Monatsschrift 1875, p. 61 sq.; 1880, p. 481 sq.). Targ. Y. Gen. XXXVI, 20; I Chr. I, 38 (h. text שעיר). Targ. Y. I Deut. XXXIII, 2. -- Ab. Zar. 59a; Keth. 112a לג׳ איקלע came to Gabla. Cmp. גבלן.
גבלול m. (גבל) a lump of dough taken out for form- ing cakes &c., a roll of dough. Y. Halll. II, beg. 59a חלה ג׳ כמין the priest's gift must be, in shape and substance, like a roll. -- Pl. גבלולין. Ib. ג׳ ג׳ משתיעשה from the time that the dough is divided into lumps.

גבלית f. (a geogr. term) Giblean, sub. גיזרה, a (iblean balcony. Ohol. XIV, 1 והג׳ הגיזרה; Y. Shebi. III, 34c bot. הגובלית גיזרה, Tosef. Oh. XIV, 9 ג׳ איזה what balcony is called Giblith? ומכאן מכאן שמניקה כל האמצע מן ומשוייר (ed. Zuck. a. oth.) a balcony which sucks from (is girded tto the wall on) both sides and left alone (without support) in the middle. [Ar. reads כל וכ׳ מכאן שמעוקם curved on both sides and straight-lined in the middle, and explains our w. to mean אוצר store- room.] [Var. lect. גבילית, גבלות, גבלת.]
גבלן, הג׳ pr. n. [Highland,] District of Gablan, Gabalena (cmp. גבלא a. גבול II). Sot. IX, 15 (49b); Cant. R. to II, 13 ישום והג׳; Snh. 97a יאשם והג׳ (Ms. F. והגבל) the Gablan will lie desolate; (cmp.Keth. 112a לגבלא איקלע as to the envied fertility of Gabalena). V. גובלנא.

גבן m. (b. h., denom. of גב) hump-backed, or one having defective eye-brows. Bekh. VII, 2 R. Hanina .. . .v says, the gibben. of the Bible (Lev. XXI, 20) is שיש מי וכ׳ גבים שני לו, v. גב h.; oth. opin., v. s. v. גבין. [Targ. Y. II eaxtremely tall, v. גביח.]
