Nif. נגדע to be lopped, diminished. Cant. R.to III, 7 ׳ וכ׳ גובה (Var. נגרע, v. גרע) Adam'shigh stature was reduced. [V. גוע.]
גדע ch. same. *Targ. II Sam. X, 4 (ed. Lag. גרע). thpa. אתגדע to be cut, mutilated. Targ. Y. Ex. XII, 12; Num. XXXIII, 4.
גדף (b. h.; cmp. preced.) to cul, scrape. Part. pass. גדוף, pl. גדופין. Pes. 42aהג׳ מים Ar., v. גרף. - גדופה מיתה, v. infra. P. גדף, גידף 1) to hollow out, scrape or chisel so as to form an enclosure or rim (cmp. גדפא, גדנפא). -- 2) to scrape, to emptty to the dregs. Kerith. 7b (explain. מגדם, Num. XV, 30, as a metaphor) as one says to his neigh- bor וחיסרת הקערה את נדפת Ar. (ed. גיר׳; Sifre Num. 112 וכ׳ מן גררתה) thou hast scraped out the dish and lessened the thickness of the vessel (i. e. besides worshipping the forces of Nature to impair, so to speak, the supre- ׳macy of the Creator); he who thus explains, is of the opinion that מגדף means blaspheming the Divine Name; וכ׳ ולא הקערה ג׳ thou hast scraped the dish clean but not impaired it (i. e. to worship natural forces without denying the Divine supremacy); he who thus explains, is of the opinion that מגדף is a worshipper of idols; [Y. Snh. VII, 25b top וכ׳ כל את גיר׳ thou hast emptied the whole dish and left nothing in it, i.. e. thou hast erased the entire Law; Sifre l. c. וכ׳ גררתה. -- Trnsf. (cmp. ארר, קלל, נקב) to blaspheme (God); to revile, reproach. Kerith. I, 2 המגדף אף the blasphemer is also excluded from the rule (and has not to offer a sacrifice in the case of sin- ning through ignorance); expl ib. 7b, v. supra. Snh. VII, 5; a. fr. -- Num. R. s. 10 בנחיצה ומגדפם מחרפם שהיה לפי וכ׳ גדופה מיתה מת לכן because be (Sisera) disgraced and reviled them (the Israelites) with oppressive measures, therefore he died an ignominious death, for (the Lord) delivered him into the hands of a woman; a. fr.

גדפא m. (v. גדף) Pi. 1) hollowed out, whence 1) rim, border. Succ. 20b; Ab. Zar. 76ab Ar., v. דנפא. - 2) (cmp. כנף) wing. Targ. Job XXXIX, 13. Targ. O. Deut. IV, 17 (ed. Berl. גפא, v. Berl. Targ. O. II, p. 50); a. e. - B. Bath. 73b ג׳ דלי (Rashbam גדנפא לי דליא, Ms. O. גפא, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 40) lifted (towards me) a wing. - Trnsf. bird; feather, plumage. Keth. 105b וכ׳ ג׳ פרח a bird few on his head. Gitt. 86a דאווזא בג׳ with a goose feather; Ab. Zar. 28a. Hull. 46b we put on it רוקא או ג׳ a feather or ב.גXבc Gen. I, 21; a. e. -- B. Bath. l. c. וכ׳ גדפדיהסו דשמטי whose feathers fell out on account of their fatness. Hull. 31a we see דמיפרמי גידפי that the rims of the cut throat stand apart (Rashi; that the plumage of the throat is cut through).

גדפן, גדפן m. (גדף) blasphemer. - P. גדפנין, גוה׳. Y. M. Kat. III, 83b וכ׳ הגד׳ משרבו since the (gentile) blasphemers (of the Lord) became too numerous, they (the Israelites) ceased to rend their garments (on hear- ing blasphemy); Y. Snh. VII, 25b top הגי׳ (corr. acc.). -- Y. Yoma VII, 44c top; Cant. R. to IV, 4 הגו׳ על (Lev. R. s. 10 המגדפים על) atones for the blasphemers.

Tosef. M. Kat. I, 7 אותה גודרין . . . חומת if a city wall is broken into, we may fence it in (repair it, during the festive week). -- Gen. R. s. 49 (play on haaf, Gen. R. s. 24 וכ׳ עצמו גודר שהוא מי (Y. Yeb. II, 3d top פורש) he who guards himself against sin (restraining himself from anything unchaste) is called holy. Gen.
