Ber. 17a כשם וכ׳ מתגדר אינו שהוא as he cannot excel in my work (study), so can I not in his (ffield labor). R. to I, 4 פורני מן גדראניה I will deduct it from my dowry. [Ib. to I, 9 מגדיר אנא, v. גרר.]
גדר I m. (v. גדיר) fence, partition. Peah II, 3. Y. ib. 14 מחובר ג׳ a hedge, v. חבר. B. lKam. 23a [read] הג׳ ונפל (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l.) and the partition wall fell in; a. v. fr. -- Trnsf. guard against trespassing the law, restraint, reventive measure (v. גזרה). Tosef. Shebi III, 13 לעמוד שיכול ג׳ אלא גזרו לא they (the scholars) erect only such a fence as can stand, i. e. enact only practicable measures (v. גזר). Snh. 21a וכ׳ גדרה גדול ג׳ Tamar erected a great guard at the time (became a warning to girls). Lev. גדש to heap up, to put up stacks of grain. Pes. 56a; Men. 71a העומר לפני גודשין they put the stacks of grain up before offering the Omer (v. עומר); Tosef. Pes. II (III), 19 (corr. acc.). Tosef. B. Kam. VI, 24 השאילו וכ׳ וג׳ . . לגדוש if he lent him a spot to pile wheat on t, and he piled barley; a. fr. -- 2) to give heaped measure, opp. מחק to strike. B. Bath. V, 11 where the usage is וכ׳ דגדוש לא למחוק to strike grain, one must not heap (even for special remuneration) &c.; a. fr. -- Part. pass. גדוש, f. גדושה, brimful, overlowing, heaped. Tam. V, 4. Yoma 48a גדושות, v. טפף lI. Gen. R. s. 22 ג׳ . . . . חטאו ומגודש the measure of thy sin is heaped to excess. -- Sabb. 153b; Tosef. ib. I, 17; Y. ib. גהץ (cmp. גהט) to be bright, glad, willing. Gen.
