גחך, גחיך (corresp. to b. h. צחק) 1) to laugh, jest. Targ. Y. Gen. XVIII, 13; 15 (O. חייך, h. text צהק). Y. Naz. VII, 56c top ג׳ אתחמי he appeared to be laughing. Y. Kidd. III, 64a bot. גחכין they laughed. Y. Ber. VI, 10c top [readn] חבריה ליה גחיך his colleague laughed at him (Bab. ib. 39a חבירו . . . לגלג). Y. Kil. IX, 32c bot. לקבליה ג׳ he received him with a smile; Y. Keth. XII, 35b. Gen. גחכן m. (preced.) jester. Snh. 39a וכ׳ ג׳ אלהיכון your God is a jester (making sport of the prophet).
גחל, v. next w. pl.
גחלת f. (b. h.; גחל) burning coal. Bets. V, 5; Tosef. ib. IV, 7 וכ׳ כרגלי הג׳ if one takes burning coals from his neighbor on the Holy day, they may be carried only as far as the owner is permitted to go; contrad. to שלהבת. Y. BBer. VIII, 12b bot.; a. e. -- Yeb. 63b ג׳ מבעיר כניצון (as dangerous) as a spark kindling coals. Ab. II, 10 והוי וכ׳ בגחלתן זהיר take care of their (the scholars') burning coals (do not treat them lightly) that thou mayest not be burnt. Gen. R. s. 78 end וכ׳ בגחלתו נכוה שלא (we are afraid) that we may be burnt by the coal of Jacob, i. e. come to grief through contact with a godly man. -- Pl. גחלים. Yoma IV, 3. Gen. *גחמון m. (imper. of a verb גחם to burn, Arab. gahama, adopted forhhomiletical play onגחם, Gen. XXII, 24) burn them. Yalk. Gen. 102, end (from Gen. R. s. 5, end) גחמון גחם Yalk. a. l. [Midr. ed. גמחון. - The entire paseage seems tto be a late gloss.]]
גחן (v. גחה) to bend. Pesik. R. s. 26 לארץ גוחן היה וכ׳ he bent down to the ground and kissed the foot-prints. Num. R. s. 4, beg. וכ׳ עליו גוחנת אמו his mother bends over him and lets him suck; (Tosef. Sabb. XV (XVI), 5 שוחה). - Part. pass. גחון bent. Gen. R. s. 20 מהלכין שיהו וכ׳ גחונין (v. Yalk. ib. 31) that they walk bent (with grief) over their dead.

Ibb חליצה גט דמקרי who pro- nounces the words to be said at the act of hailitgah (Deut. XXV, 7a. 8). - מיאון ׳ accertificate statinga woman's protest against her marriage. Ib. --- כריתות ג׳meאשה ג׳.
