גלש (b. h.; cmp. גלה) 1) to come in sight, to come forth. Cant. R. to IV, 1 (ref. to וכ׳ מהר שגלשו ib.) לאו״ה גלעד עשיתיו מתוכה שגלשתן הר (not תי . . . .) the mountain (of trouble) out of which ye came in sight again (ye escaped), I (the Lord) made it a hill of wit- ness (a warning) to the nations; סוף ים זה זה אי what is this? It is the Red Sea [which R. Joshua . . . translated into Chaldean; גווה מן דאתנהרתון טורא]; ib. to IV, 4 סיני הר . . . .. .. שג׳ הר I made your escape memorable to the nations, it is Mount Sinai (by the giving of the Law); ib. repeatedly (referring to various escapes from dangers). Hif. הגליש to bring to light, to publish. Ib. to IV, 1 וכ׳ הגלשתי הגלשה ומה (Ar. ed. Koh. גלשה) and what publication (institution or law) have I(the Lord) brought to light out of that event? *kof. הוגלש (denom. of גלש baldness) to be made hot enough for scalding the hair or feathers of an animal's skin. Part. מוגלש, pl. מוגלשין seething water. Pes. 37b (Rabad to Eduy. V, 2 quotes a version מגלושין scalding water, Ar. גלשים מי, fr. גלש; Y. Hall. I, 58a top חמין).
גלש ch. same; to shine, be bald; v. גלוש, גלושותא &c. -- Part. pass. וגליש=h. מוגלש (v. preced.) broughtt to scaldt- ing heat, boiling over. Koh. R. to VIII, 9, v. גיסא III.
*גלש m. (preced.) baldness. Pl. גלשים. ג׳ מי scalding water, v. גלש Hof.
*גלשא, m., pl. גלשין bright or bald lines. Cant. R. to IV, 1 (a gloss to גלש) a woman whose hair is thick ג׳ ג׳ לה עבדא parts it so as to show white lines; מוצינא הדא ג׳ ג׳ עבד הוא טבאות לפי כההוא (prob. to be read בוצינא . . . . . הוא כד) a young pumpkin, when it sprouts nicely, produces bright stripes.

גלשושיתא f. (גלש) public monument. Targ. Cant. to IV, 1 (v. Cant. R. to ib. s. v. גלש). [Ar. reads גבשושיתא, but the phonetic interpretation refers to שגלשו of the Hebrew text.]

גם I (b. h.; גמם) [junction,] 1) too, also. Snh. 108b; Taan. 21a לטובה זו ג׳ this, too, is for the best. זו גם איש, v. גמזו. -- 2) the particle gam in the Bible text. B. Kam. 94a קשיא לב״ה ׳ the gam (Deut. XXIII, 19) is unaccounted for according to Beth Hillel's opinion; Tem. 30b. Esth. R. to I, 9 (ref. to גם ib.) ריבוי אלא ג׳ אין gam intimates an amplification, a. e. -- Pl. נמים, גגמין Gen. R. s. 1; Y. Ber. IX, 14b bot. ריבויין וג׳ אתין the eths and the gams in- timate an extended qualification (by implication), v. את.
גם II, גאם (גמא) m. (preced.) goint, angle. esp. two sides of a rectangle. Erub. 55a גם כמין Ar. (ed. גאם) in the shape of a right angle. Zeb. 53b גמא (Yalk. Lev. 441 גאם). Pes. 8b ג׳ כמין אחת שורה one row of wine vessels, in the shape of &c., i. e. the front and the whole upper layer. Y. ib. I, 27b bot. גם כמין קולפו. - Kel. XIV, 8 (מפתה) גומו מתוך שנשבר גם של a key whose bit is joined (opp. to ארכובה של of one piece) broken at its junction. [Sabb. 105a הגם על Ar., ed. הגס על, q. v.]-- Pl. נמים, גמין. Y. Pes. l. c. ג׳ שני כמין קולפו he takes off for examination two front and two upper layers, v. supra. Ib. if the vessels are arranged like steps ג׳ ג׳ קולפו he must examine by front and upper layers on each landing. B. גמא m. (~~~~~~) 1) Gamma, the third letter of the Greek alphabet. Shek. III, 2 ג׳ ביתא אלפא Ms. O. (ed. גמלא). -- 2) the shape of a Gamma, , v. preced.
גמא (b. h.), גמה, גמע to take a draught, quaff; to sip, suck up. Y. Maas. Sh. II, beg. 53b he melted fat וגמעו and sipped it; Y. Yoma VIII, 45a top וגמייו. Sabb. XIV, 4 (111a) וכ׳ בהן יגמא לא Ar. (ed. יגמע, or יגמ׳ Pi., v. infra) he must not quaff vinegar through his teeth. Y. Maasr. III, 50d bot. בכוס לגמות . . . . כמה how large a portion of the cup one must quaff at a time. Y. Shebi. II, end, 34b; Y. Ned. VII, beg. 40b the leaves of the colocasia must not be used (in case of a vow of abstinence fromvegetables, or in the Sabbath year) לגמות וכ׳ to sip water out of them (v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Colocasia); a. fr. Pi. גמא, גמע same. Sabb. 111a תנן ופולט מגמע (Ms. M. ויפלוט יגמע לא) the Mishnah means, he must not quaff and spit out; Bets. 18b; Y. Shebi. VIII, 38a top מגמא; a. fr.
גמאין m. pl. (preced.) sweetmeats, delicacies. Esth. R. to I, 9 (play on גם ib.) ג׳ מיני various delicacies.
גמגם (Pilp. of גמם) [to peel, scrapetrnst, cmp. חסםII, חכך] to hesitate, stammmer, lo speak with an egxpression of uncertainty or of scruple. Kidd. 30a ותאמר תגמגם אל לו that thou need not hesitate in answering him; Sifre Deut. 34. Ber. 22a וכ׳ למעלה מגמגם היה (Ms. M. a. Rashi וקורא מג׳) was speaking hesitatingly over (as the Amora of) R. Judah &c. Ibb וקורא מג׳ he should read in a. hesitating manner (rapidly murmuring); Y. ib. III, 6c bot. בה מג׳ התחיל he commenced stammering over it (hesitating to pronounce the Divine Name). [Cant. גמגם ch. same. Hag. 15b בלישניה מגמגם a stotterer (Ar. מלגס). Meg. 31b וכ׳ מג׳ קא (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. Var. Lect.) read the curses (v. ארר) rapidly murmuring; Koh. R. to VIII, 3.
