גמיקין m. pl. (γαμικα, τα) marriage, nuptial feast (the guests of which are the witnesses of the marriage; v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Aarriage); wedding contract. Pesik. Hahod. p. 52b; Yalk.Ex. 190 a king married many wives איפטיא ולא ג׳ לא להם כתב ולא but did not order in their behalf a record of the nuptial act or of the date of mar- riage וכ׳ ג׳ לה וכתב . . שנשא וכיון but when he married a woman of noble descent, he had her marriage recorded as we read (Esth. II, 16) &c., v. איפטיא; Pesik. R. s. 15 גהיקן כתובת (read גמ׳). Ex. R. s. 32 גמיסקין ביניהם שאין for there is between them no wedding feast to testify to their alliance. Ib. s. 47 משלו גמיסקוס לה כתב he had a. marriage contract written at his own expense; לה עשה וכ׳ ולואי ג׳ prepare thou the certificate, and would I could prevail upon myself to end my signature to it . גמיר, גמירא m. (Part. pass. of גמר) 1) (=h. כליל) finished, perfect. Targ. Ez. XVI, 14. -- 2) holocaust, entirely burnt. Targ. Lev. VI, 16; a. fr. - 3) (=h. כלה) גמירא f. (with or without כלייה) entire destruction, extermination. Targ. Gen. XVIII, 21 (Targ. Y. II, v. כלייה). Targ. Jer. V, 18; a. fr. -- ) concluded, decision. Targ. ISam. גמ״ל, v. גימ״ל.
גמל (b. h.) [to tie, couple, load,] 1) to load (good or evil) on, to deal with, esp. to do good to. Gen. R. s. 38 תחלה עליך ג׳ שהוא for he was the first to do thee good; Yalk. Prov. 956. -- Sabb. 104a דלים גמול, v. גימ״ל. - חסדד ג׳ to be kind, charitable. Ib. וכ׳ חסדים גומל של דרכו שכן (Ms. M. גומלי של דרכן) for such is the habit of the charitable to run after the poor. Yeb. 79a; a. v. fr. --- 2) to make even, repay. Dem. IV, 6 כגומלין שהן אע״פ זה את זה although it has the appearance as if they were repaying each other (by mutual recommendations). Ab. Zar. 61b לגומלין חיישיננן we reject witnesses suspect- ed of favoring each other; Keth. 24a. -- 3) (cmp. גמר a. חסל) [to finish,] to wean. B. גמל ch. same, to do one good or evil. Targ. I Sam. XXIV, 18; a. fr. - Y. Hag. III, 42c top חיסדא גמיל the charitable. tthpe. אתגמל to be laden with; to be bestowed. Targ. II Esth. V, 2 (Targ. I אטעינת, h. text ותשא). -- Y. Hag. l. c. חסד ליה איתג׳ לא nobody cared to attend his funeral, v. supr.
גמל m. (b. h.; גמל) [carrier ofloads,] camel. Bekh. 8a. Ber. 56b; a. fr. -- Pl. גמלים. Keth. 67f וכ׳ ערביא של ג׳ camels n Arabia can be levied for a wife's portion (כתובה); a. fr.
גמל m. (preced.) camel-driver. Kidd. IV, 13 one must not rear his son to be וכ׳ ג׳ חמר an ass-driver, or a. camel-driver &c.; Y. ib. IV, end, 66c; a. e. -- Pl. גמלין. Ib. -- Y. M. Kat. III, 62a bot. גמליו his drivers. -- חמר וגמל) ass-driver and camel-driver in one person (the camel-driver walking by the head of his beast, the ass- driver behind), one walking forward and backward, i. e. one who, owing to the loss of the object with which he appointed the central point for the movements of the day (v. עירוב), may walk only from his home to that spot and back. גמלא I c., ch. 1) =h. גמל camel. Targ. Lev. XI, 4; a. e. -- Snh. 106a (prov.) וכ׳ אזלא ג׳ the camel went to ask for horns, and had her ears cut offf. -- Macc. 5a פרחא ג׳ a flying (swift) camel, dromedary; Yeb. 116a. -- Ib. 45a (prov.) וכ׳ במדי ג׳ in Media a camel can dance on a kab (bushel), i. e. in Media everything is possible. Sot. 13b; Keth. 67a, a. e. (prov.) שיחנא ג׳ לפום according to the camel is his load, i. e. the greater the man, the greater his responsibility. -- Pl. גמלין, גמליא, גמלי. Targ. Gen.
