דושן m. (דשן) fat pasture ground. Sifre Num. 81; Deut. 62 יריחו של דושנה (cmp. דשן Jer. XXXI, 39).
דות, חדות f. (sub. בית) m. a subterranean masoned store-room, cistern, cellar. [Syr. חדותא grex, horreum, P. Sm. 1200.] [In Mishnah Seder Toharoth חדות, v. R. S. to Ohol. XI, 8.] B. Bath. IV, 2 he who sells a house, has not sold with it הד׳ את ולא הבור את לא either the pit or the duth. Ib. 64a וכ׳ הד׳ ואחד הבור אחד bor and duth are subterranean, בבנין ד׳ בחפירה בור a bor is made by digging, a duth by masonry. Tosef. Erub. XI (VIII), I8; Tosef. Pes. I, 3 והד׳ היציע; Y. ib. דחוכא m. (דחיך) feast, wedding entertainment. Koh. R. to II, 2 [read;] וכ׳ מערבבא דדחוכיה he whose feast is disturbed, --what has rejoicing to do with him?; Pesik. Ahare p. 169b מעורבב דרחבה הן (read דדחוכיה הן); Lev. R. s. 20.
דחוק m. (דחק) 1) oppression. Targ. Ex. VI, 6. Targ. Ps. XLIII, 2. - 2) need, tint. Targ. II Chr. XVIII, 26; I Kings XXII, 27.
דחי, דחא, דחה (b. h. דחה) 1) to push away, thrust. Tosef. Yoma Iv (II), 14 מת ולאא דחאו; Y. ib. VI, 43c bot. דחייו if the man thrust the goat down the precipice, and it did not die. Snh. 107b, a. e. שמאל תהא וכ׳ דוחה let the left hand repel them and the right invite; a. fr. -- Transf. בקש ד׳, or בקנה to dismiss with a vague or paltry reply. Hull. 27b. Tanh. Huck. 8; Num. R. s. 19; a. fr. -- 2) to expel. Tosef. Dem. III, 4; Bekh. 31a; Y. Dem. II, 23a top, v. חבירות. -- 3) to suspend, make in- operative, supersede. Ohol. VII, 6 וכ׳ מפני נפש דוחין אין we dare not set aside the regard due to one human life for the sake of saving another human life; Gen R. s. 94 וכ׳ דוחים עושין כד is it thus one must act? dare you sacrifice one life &c.-- Y. Snh. VIII, 26c top הספק את ד׳ to disregard the doubt the benefit of which is to be given to the criminal. -- Y. Shek. IV, 47d bot. וכ׳ אותו דחינו we postponed it (the fast) to the first day of the week; Meg. 5b דחינוהו; Erub. 41a דחינהו. -- Pes. VI, 1. . דברים אלו וכ׳ דוחין the following performances needed for the Pass- over offering take precedence of the Sabbath (cause a. suspension of the Sabbath laws); a. v. fr. -- Part. pass. דחוי a) pushed, hurried. M. Kat. 28a דחויה מיתה a hurried death. - b) suspended, superseded. Yoma 7b, a. fr. טומאה וכ׳ היא דחויה the law about levitical purity is only suspended for the sake of an entire community (and its suspension requires atonement), opp. הותרה טומאה the law &c. is inoperative. Zeb. 12a מעיקרו ד׳ unfit from the siart, opp. ונדחה נראה, v. infra. -- [Yeb. 80b; Gitt. 57a דוחה, v. דיהה.] Nif. נדחה to be pushed aside, suspended; to give way. Meg. 5b ידחה ונ׳ הואיל the fast being once suspended (on account of the Sabbath), let it remain so (and not be taken up on Sunday). Pes. 66b נידחין צבור ואין . . . כ׳ איש an individual (if unclean on Passover) is suspended (post- pones the celebration) until the second Passover (Num. IX, 10 sq.), but not a community. Yoma 64a חיים בעלי נידחין אינן animals (dedicated for sacrifices) cannot be removed forever from sacred use (as long as the obstacle lies not in their physical unfitness). Ib. ונ׳ נראה once fit and then discarded (on account of a temporary unfit- ness). - Ber. 64a מפניו נדחת שעה . . הנ׳ כל to him who gives way to time (yielding patiently to circumstances), time will give way, v. דחק. Hif. הדחה 1) to remove hurriedly. M. Kat. 22a מדחה מיטתו he who is anxious to remove the bier of a relative (hurries the burial). -- 2) to thrust. Arakh. 30b אבן אדהה וכ׳ אחר Rashi (ed. אידחה, corrupt. of אידה; Ar. דחה imperat. Kal) I will throw a stone after the fallen man (not give the sinner a chance to return). דחי, דחא ch. same, 1) to thrust, push, knock down. Targ. O. Num. XXXV, 20 דחהי he knocked him down (h. text הדף; Y. דחייה). Targ. Ps. CXVIII, 13; a. e. -- 2) to suspend, supersede &c., v. preced. 3). Zeb. 12b הוא בידים נפשיה ד׳ he debarred himself from offering (on account of his apostasy). Pes. 69b לידחי אימא I might think they take precedence of the Sabbath. Ber. 23a הוא דחויא גברא the person was for the time in an unfit condition to pray (and his prayer does not count at all). צg7
