דמם (b. h.; v. דום, דמה) 1) to be silent, dumb, att rest; to be stricken dumb. Pesik. R. s. 33 (ref. to Is. VI, 5) שדממי לי היה היאך how did it happen to me that I was silent (did not join in the praises of the angels)? Taan. 20a הרוחות דממו when the winds subside. Snh. 91a דומם כאבן like a dumb stone. Ber, 19a ודומם יושב sits in silence; a. fr. -- Part. pass. דמום, f. דמומה. Lam. R. to I, 17 (ref. to אדדס, Ps. XLII, 5) וכ׳ סלקא ד׳ ועכשיו and now in silence does she(Israel) go up(to the ruins otlerusalem), and in silence &c. -- V. דמם. -- 2) to leave off. Midr. Till. to Ps. IV, 5 (ref. to ודמו ib.) דמע (b. h.) to flow, shed tears. Tosef. Bekh. IV, 4 . . . אם if his eye is tearing. Bekh. 44a, v. דלף. דומעת . . [Sifre Deut. 157 דומעות . . . שיהו עד, read; עיניו שזלגו דמעות; v. Sot. VII, 8.] Pi. דמע (denom. of דמע II) to make a thing, otherwise exempt, subyect to the law of P'rumah, to mix secular grain, wine, oil cc. with T'umah in proportions sufffi- cient to make the whole prohibited to non-priests; in gen. to mix secular with sacred things. Orl. II, 4; 6 1המדמ; a. fr. - Ter. III, 1 וכ׳ מדמעת אינה does not make Dema by itself (if mixed with secular fruits). Ib. 2 מדמעתן אינה does not make them dema; וכ׳ כקטנה מדבעות make dema, the smallest of the two being considered as an admix- ture; a. fr. -- Part. pass. מדומע. Ib. V, 6 מדמע המדומע אין וכ׳ that which became subject to the law of T'rumah through an admixture, can affect a second mixture only in proportion, i. e. according to the quantity of real Trumah contained therein. Hag. III, 4 wine jars or oil ars המדומעות which have been mixed up; expl. ib. 25b דקדש מד׳ containing liquids, a portion of which was designated for libations. Nif. נדמע to become Dema through mixture. Ter. l. c. Nidd. 46b שנדמעה עיסה if a sufficient quantity of T'rumah has been put in a dough to make it forbidden to non- priests; a. e.

דמע I m. (b. h.; preced.) 1) tear, weeping. Men. 30a; B. Bath. 15a Moses wrote בד׳ (Ms. M. בדמעות) with tears (so that he could not speak). -- Pl., v. דמעה.
דמע II m. (b. h.; cmp. ניב, תנובה) fruits, whence (sub. ראשית, מתנת, v. Ex. XXII, 28) the priestt's share of the produces, T'rumah. Mekh. Mishp. s. 19; Yalk. Ex. 351 T'rumah has three names, eshith, lT'rumah וד׳ and Dema; Tem. 4a. Ohol. XVI, 4 בדמעו אוכל he may partake of his priestly share. Tosef. Ter. X, 16 הד׳ בית place in the barn designated for T'rumah.-
